A few good tips:
1. When scanning images or saving them with a digital camera to the
computer, remember that if you plan to use it on the net, that the file
needs to be a .jpg and no more than 72 dpi or ppi (Dots per inch) (Pixels
per inch)
This is to insure compressed file sizes for fast loading of webpages.
2. It is not mandatory, but, if you want viewers of your webpages to stay
and enjoy what you have to say or show them, keep graphics to a minimum!
This means that if you are using a graphic for the background and more than
4 other images on a page... your page may take too long to load in a browser
to your viewers. Remember that some have slower Internet connections than
others. Also, just because a page seems to load lickety split for you, that
does not mean it will for others.... your web browser knows where to find
the graphics quicker because they are saved in YOUR hard drive... so others
have to wait for them to load longer because they do not have the same
graphics in thier hard drive as you do. It is wiser to have more pages than
to have all your information on one page.
3. Make sure that you have checked your page to make sure that all your
graphics loaded and that all the links are working!
4. Webpages need to be updated and checked periodically. No one likes a
page that has not gotten new information on it in sometime. This again is
not mandatory, but some people return to thier favorite pages to see what is
new. So keep in mind what new things you can add and replace old things with.
5. Never, Never, give out your personal information this includes:
Real Name, Age, Address, Phone Numbers, etc..... get creative and make a
name for your self! :) Or you can use your first name or a nickname ....
but limit yourself to that! Also, if you are not an adult, I highly recommend, not putting
your email address on the net either. There are people out there that collect email
addresses just to send you unwanted emails!
There are "spiders" on the net called "spambots" what they do is find
email addresses from webpages. I recommend an email scrambler...
1.) SiteUp Networks
The net is not always so nice!
And you never know for sure who to trust. I realize that because you live in a small
town
and everyone knows you, that you feel safe....but once you are open to the
net... that means that EVERYONE in the whole world can now see you. So
beware!!!
